Research highlighting the changes in ownership of the shares of the USA's largest 1000 companies has been published by The Conference Board. The research indicates that institutions - pension funds, investment companies, insurance companies, banks and foundations - now own over three quarters of the stock in such companies. In 1987 less than half of the stock of these companies was owned by institutions. A summary of the research is available here.Notes:
