In a
news release issued last Friday the
European Commission stated that September 11 is the likely date for its publication of proposals for reforming the supervision of banks within the
euro area. A greater role for the
European Central Bank is envisaged. Further details are also expected with regard to the role of the
European Banking Authority and the impact of the proposals on supervisory authorities in EU countries not in the euro area.
Update (31 August 2012): 12 September now appears to be the date on which the proposals will be published: see
here.
