Malaysia: strengthening the powers of the Securities Commission in corporate governance matters
The Malaysian prime minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, delivered the keynote speech at this year's Invest Malaysia conference. He took the opportunity to explain some of the Government's proposed amendments to the Capital Market Services Act 2007 and Securities Commission Act 1993. These will give greater enforcement powers to the Securities Commission and establish an independent Auditor Oversight Board. The prime minister's speech has been reported here.
