Office for National Statistics has published the results of its survey of the ownership of the shares of UK quoted and domiciled companies as at the end of 2014: see

here. Over half of the shares by value are owned by individuals and organisations outside of the UK, with the other ownership categories as shown in the below chart (taken from page 3 of the
